Deluxe Creative Workshops in Utrecht
Welcome! In all creative workshops, embracing your work-in-progress is central. This means that we try to leave perfectionism outside the studio as much as possible. There is room for plenty of personal attention, and all levels are welcome, even if you haven’t touched a pencil since childhood. Above all, my studio should feel like a safe space where you can freely experiment and also create ‘ugly’ things - that’s also part of your work-in-progress. We always work with high-quality professional materials, and if you'd like, there’s a m/cocktail waiting for you!

Painting Portraits workshop: Imaginary Friends
In this workshop, we’ll explore which ‘imaginary friends’ are hiding in our subconscious and draw and paint them on paper. You’ll learn how to warm up for a creative session, how to start a piece on paper using mixed media, and how to push through when you're in the ‘ugly’ phase of a painting.
Mixed media workshop: Fantastical Florals
In this workshop we’ll work on an expressive floral collage. We’ll start with short charcoal drawing exercises to loosen up, and then use ecoline and acrylic ink to create colourful fantasy florals. Finally, you’ll combine these different elements into an expressive collage that involves lots of playful experimentation!
Painting workshop: I dreamt of Expanding (Make a Selfportrait)
In this extensive 4-hour workshop, we place ourselves at the center and work on creating a self-portrait. This workshop is all about learning to take up space, and by the end of it, you’ll go home with your own expanded self-portrait. One that’s allowed to exist in any form :-)

Location
Workshops and courses will take place in my own painting studio in the center of Utrecht. You’ll be drawing and painting inbetween my own paintings so creating in a creative space is guaranteed.
Since I like keeping workshops and courses as intimate as possible there’s space for a maximum of 8 people.

Roxy van Bemmel
The workshops and courses are taught by me, Roxy van Bemmel. I have been working as an independent artist for six years, after graduating from ArtEZ in Fashion Design in 2017. The workshops are held in my absolute dream studio, which is big, has high ceilings, and beautifully lit, where I spend almost all my days working on my art ánd my business.
In addition, I have five years of experience as a teacher at various schools, from vocational (MBO) and higher professional education (HBO) institutions to private courses in illustration and fashion. Thanks to the diversity of students I have had the pleasure of meeting, I can quickly get to the heart of what you really need.
I believe in creating a lot and also in making ugly things to progress quickly. If you want to get rid of your perfectionism, you’re at the right address!

Practical information

The workshops are in Dutch, so if you understand Dutch that’s great! If you don’t, I’m happy to translate for you. Just be a little more patient. Plus, in my experience whenever someone in the group doesn’t understand English, the Dutch participants are happy to talk English with you.
If you book a group/private workshop I’m happy to do it in English of course.

My studio is at a 20 minute walking distance from Utrecht central or you can reach it by bus from there. There’s a (paid) parking garage next to the building.

What a shame! In that case, please contact me as soon as possible via email. The easiest way is to give your spot to a friend, and I’m also happy to help promote your ticket through my social media.
My cancellation policy is as follows:
Up to 14 days: 100% refund
14-7 days: 50% refund
7-0 days: 0% refund
Since I purchase materials based on the number of participants and cannot guarantee that I’ll be able to fill your spot, I need to maintain a specific cancellation policy. Thank you for your understanding!

A few days before the workshop starts, you will always receive an email from me with an overview of where to go and my phone number in case anything last minute comes up. It will also say whether you need to bring your own materials, though usually this is not necessary.

Of course, I love beginners! Of course! All workshops (unless otherwise specified) are for all skill levels, even if you've never held a pencil before. I'll guide you through the workshop with various exercises so you can create something beautiful even without experience. Plus, it's all about embracing the work-in-progress :-)

No! Every month is different. I try to organize at least one workshop each month, so make sure to keep an eye on the schedule or subscribe to the newsletter.
If you want to take a specific workshop that’s no longer available, feel free to contact me for a private session.

Absolutely. Right after purchasing in my shop, you will receive an email containing your ticket with a BTW invoice (21%). If you'd like to purchase a ticket under a company name as a group, please send me an email.
