Paint your own selfportrait
In this extensive 4-hour workshop, we place ourselves at the center and work on creating a self-portrait. Before the workshop begins, you’ll receive a short homework assignment to create an image of yourself that will serve as the foundation for your piece. During the workshop, we’ll build on that image.
This workshop is all about learning to take up space, and by the end of it, you’ll go home with your own expanded self-portrait. One that’s allowed to exist in any form :-)
The workshop
In the first part of the workshop, I’ll teach you how to let go of perfectionism through a series of creative exercises. We’ll explore our self-portraits and “transform” them using collage and drawing techniques. You’ll get an introduction to working with acrylic paint, charcoal, and oil pastels, and I’ll provide various paper sizes and colors to experiment with.
In the second part, your sketch will be ready, and you’ll develop your own self-portrait using acrylic paint, oil pastels, and possibly collage.
Beginner friendly
No previous drawing experience is required for this workshop, but if you do have experience and are looking for extra motivation to create in a creative environment, you are more than welcome!
The workshops take place in my art studio in Utrecht, so a creative setting is guaranteed!

The workshops are in Dutch, so if you understand Dutch that’s great! If you don’t, I’m happy to translate for you. Just be a little more patient. Plus, in my experience whenever someone in the group doesn’t understand English, the Dutch participants are happy to talk English with you.
If you book a group/private workshop I’m happy to do it in English of course.

My studio is at a 20 minute walking distance from Utrecht central or you can reach it by bus from there. There’s a (paid) parking garage next to the building.

14-7 days: 50% refund

Since I purchase materials based on the number of participants and cannot guarantee that I’ll be able to fill your spot, I need to maintain a specific cancellation policy. Thank you for your understanding!

A few days before the workshop starts, you will always receive an email from me with an overview of where to go and my phone number in case anything last minute comes up. It will also say whether you need to bring your own materials, though usually this is not necessary.

Of course, I love beginners! Of course! All workshops (unless otherwise specified) are for all skill levels, even if you've never held a pencil before. I'll guide you through the workshop with various exercises so you can create something beautiful even without experience. Plus, it's all about embracing the work-in-progress :-)

No! Every month is different. I try to organize at least one workshop each month, so make sure to keep an eye on the schedule or subscribe to the newsletter.

Sometimes I teach through other organisations that offer cheaper workshops and I’ll promote those via my social media. Considering material and studio costs this is the best price I can offer on my personal workshops. In the future I’d like to offer community tickets if a workshop sells out (I’ve been in your situation!), but not yet for this one.
